The Fantastic Parade

Between the Roman wall and the medieval tower is a stretch of at least 180 metres of wall that is transformed each summer's evening into a thousand imaginative decors. The solid brick wall gives way to amazing illusions where, at dusk, monsters and chimera lie dormant.
The Roman town, founded under Augustus in about 20 B.C., took the name of Vindinum. From this period are thermal baths, which can be seen in an archaeological dig under the école superior (school) of Beaux-Arts, and the old wall, which was built in about 280 A.D. It is the best preserved of the whole Roman Empire, comparable with those of the two Imperial capitals, Rome and Istanbul.
