On an outcrop of rock where a standing stone had been raised, the cathedral was built in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. With is Noman nave, transept and porch, a Gothic heart, it was dedicated to Saint-Julian, patron saint of Maine. The fresco of the celestial concert is under the vault in the chapel to the Virgin Mary and shows forty-seven angel musicians in shining colour, light and harmony. This work is one of the rare graphic representations of the musical instruments of the fourteenth century. A reference for specialists in instrument making in the Middle Ages, the chapel to the Virgin has inspired this spectacular show.
