Queen Berengaria |
|
In a halo of light, the white lady, whom no one doubts is Queen Berengaria, appears on summer nights in the courtyard of the house that bears her name. Despite the legend, the deserted wife of Richard the Lionhearted never actually lived here, although she did live in Le Mans but more than two centuries before the house was built. This 16th century house with its sculptured timbers is now, like its neighbours, home to the Queen Berengaria regional art museum. The setting shows to advantage 19th century ceramics in daily use and local paintings. |
